Summary

JustFreeVPN is another free VPN service that has some poor speed test results and offers the bare minimum. However, daily tasks, light browsing and even media streaming are possibile without issues (don't expect to stream HD content though).

VPN Service Description

JustFreeVPN Service is yet another Free VPN Provider which touts its 3 servers, in different locations, one in the U.S, another one in Canada and a latter in UK. While the description on their homepage states that they provide (the) ”fastest and most reliable FREE VPN Connection” our speed tests show a completely different picture.

Features

JustFreeVPN offers no-brainer setup, with user names and passwords shown in clear, on their landing page, for each of the three servers they provide. Of course, you’ll have to go to their website before you connect to the VPN, because the password is regenerated on a regular basis. So it’s safe to presume they are ad-supported.

JustFreeVPN offers free PPTP-only connections, on (mostly) Tier 2 providers, both States-side and in Europe. They claim that the datacenters in which their servers are hosted are connected through 100 Gbit/sec fiber networks to the rest of the Interwebs.

The website provides detailed setup instructions for most clients (Windows, Mac, Linux and a variety of mobile operating systems, from iOS to Symbian and back).

Speed

We tested their server from both E.U. and U.S. Based locations and the results are nothing to write home about. On the States-Side Servers (both in Canada an U.S) we’ve managed to get a 4 Mbit/second throughput but the average speed on their servers drops down to around 1 Mbit/Sec, both Download and Upload.

Here are some speed results:

test1: 0.4 Mbit/s (Down) / 0.5 Mbit/s (Up)

Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 158ms, Maximum = 158ms, Average = 158ms

Conclusions

While they offer an setup-free service, with support for most operating systems out there, and they do have a variety of server locations, the speed is not in the same league with some other Free VPN Services we tried. An average of 1 Mbit/second Downloads is enough for most streaming services, assuming you are satisfied with standard video quality (no HD) and will do just fine for light browsing, instant messaging apps and such.
Because of the speed issue, JustFreeVPN.com gets a rough rating of 5 out of 10.

  1. Hello! I could have sworn I’ve visited this site before but after going through many of the articles I realized it’s new to me.
Nonetheless, I’m certainly pleased I stumbled upon it and I’ll be bookmarking it and checking

  3. Hello, glad I found your site also. All day I could not connect to the internet. Went crazy unplugging, rebooting, even set up a dreaded service call 🙁 I happen to go into Ctrl Pnl/Ntwk Shar/Change Adapter Settings and found this Freevpn thing? It had a red X on it and when I clicked on it I was given the option to delete. I did!
Obviously, I unknowingly installed it. I’m not even sure what use a vpn has?

  4. Darn, I should have added…
Why did this justfreevpn “all of a sudden” block my connection? It happened while I was on.
